Gathering your moments

I have a friend Lou who has a blog about cycling which is his passion so I thought I would open one on mine...getting people to understand that life is filled with many amazing adventures if you pay attention to the moments. Good or bad, wanted or not, they come suddenly and impact our lives. What we do with that moment going forward is what creates our next adventure.

So what are the moments that take your breath away? Can you number them on one hand or do you need more fingers and then even some toes? When was the last breathtaking moment in your life?

I thought it would be interesting to see who in life has specific breathtaking moments. How did it happen? Did you know it would happen in your life and that it was only a matter of time? Who has been completely laid out because they never expected the moment would happen to them? Finally who is still waiting for that one amazing moment to arrive?

Do we limit ourselves because our expectations of those moments are too high or maybe there have been potential moments and because we were not paying attention we missed it? For example some can see a beautiful sunset over an ocean or mountain top and the shear magnitude takes your breath away as you watch it slowly vanish into someone else's sunrise. Yet standing right next to you can be someone else looking at that same sunset who only sees it as the end of another day and the beginning of darkness.

I realize there are different levels of moments that take our breath away. There are the sunset moments, the birth of a child moments, that moment of that first kiss or first win in a big race. There are the "I almost lost you today" moments where after catching your breath you realize life and that loved one can never be taken for granted. Then there are the ever spoken and debated about "soulmate" moments where the connection on every level is so strong you find yourself not even realizing you are not breathing.

And finally a quote of whom I cannot recall the author that goes something like "It is not the number of moments in life that we will remember but the number of moments that take our breath away"

So as I close this very first blog posting I guess I am asking myself and everyone...what am I doing today to create and be ready for moments that take my breath away? In fact and even better question...when was the last time you and I did something so amazing or special for someone that they can list here "you or I were their breathtaking moment".
